    Sound Isolating Earphones

    Shure E5c Sound Isolating Earphones

    Shure E5c Sound Isolating Earphones

Conventional wisdom has long held that bigger means better when it comes to headphones. The thinking has been that a larger headphone isolates and covers the ear, letting it experience sounds more fully. Shure’s E5c earphones are on the vanguard of a new school of thought: Tiny is actually better. Shure has managed to cram dual-driver speakers into small earphones that isolate the listener from virtually all background noise. If you don’t mind the secret service look, and you’re ready to spend more on your headphones than you spent on your MP3 player, the E5c’s won’t disappoint. In this case, you really do get what you pay for. Design
While the E5c earbuds are larger than other earphone-style headphones, they’re still stunningly small. The cord, which includes an inline crossover unit that separates high- and low-frequency signals, is thin and pliant. A bendable stiffening material is added to the section of cable that runs behind the ears, allowing the listener to loop the cables over and behind the ear– a simple and discreet solution. The gold-plated, 3.5mm input connector has a low-profile elbow bend to minimize accidental unplugging and snags. Shure includes a detachable in-line volume attenuator that controls volume without the need to fiddle with your player or listening source. The attenuator did seem a tad larger than it needed to be and, because it is not built into the E5c cord, it must be plugged in at the end of the cord. More than one tester said, “Why not just change the volume on the iPod instead of this doo-dad plugged directly into it?” A solution that places the attenuator nearer the listener’s chest would be a welcome addition, but it’s admittedly a minor niggle.

In an effort to match the earphones to ears of all shapes and sizes, the E5c earphones come with a number of earplug “sleeves” packaged in what Shure calls a “fit kit”. Our testers had little trouble finding a sleeve that felt comfortable. We especially liked the expanding foam sleeves that, like those foam dinosaurs that grow in water, expand to fit the contours of the ear canal.

The metro.fi 2 series is perfect for those looking for an entry-level step up from their portable audio player’s stock headphones.
super.fi 3The super.fi 3 Studio earphones give you studio-quality sound in a unique in-ear design that incorporates pro-style ear loops to keep your earphones in place and a universal fit kit. The super.fi 3 studio also seals your ear canal like the metro.fi 2 but it blocks even more noise because the internal speaker is different. The super.fi 3 studio incorporates a proprietary balanced armature driver–the same technology found in hearing aids. Instead of pushing air to generate sound waves like your home speakers, a balanced armature is a coil that vibrates like a guitar sting. A balanced armature driver gives you distortion-free, full-range audio clarity while the in-ear design provides up to 26 dB of noise isolation for clearer sonic detail. The super.fi 3 series is a great intoduction to true audiophile headphones for those who are looking to get more out of their portable player.

    Cube World Global

Radica Cube World Global Get A Way

Radica Cube World Global Get A Way

Cube World just got a little bigger. The Global Get A Way cube is four times the size of the small Cube World character cubes, and offers up a slew of new distractions through additional characters, animations, and games. Turn on the blue cube to see Trip, Global Get A Way’s main resident who relaxes on his beach front property until someone comes along to play with him.You can have fun with Trip alone in many ways. You can watch him perform over 100 unique animations as he frolics outside. You can play the interactive game Jungle Jump in which you need to jump over coconuts rolling out of a tree. Or you can try to unlock up to 21 additional animations by catching bananas that a monkey is throwing at you from the tree. Global Get A Way will even keep track of your high score.

    Cube World

But things get truly interesting when you connect multiple cubes together using the magnetic contacts that are on four sides of each cube. Global Get A Way can be surrounded by eight small cubes, can be connected with other, large Global Get A Way or Block Bash cubes, or a mix and match combination of any of the above. This makes the possibilities virtually endless. Because when Trip gets visitors from other cubes, they all interact with each other–or hop in a helicopter and fly off to a remote destination they’ve never been to before!

Whether they jet-set to the mountains, a sandy beach, a theme park, or some other fun place, it’s guaranteed to be a memorable vacation. When the helicopter brings the characters back home, a party complete with music and dancing may ensue, or the characters may just call it a day and head back to their respective cubes for some shut-eye. After four minutes of no interaction from you, Trip will go into sleep mode, complete with animated snoring after he lies down. After another minute of no movement, the cube will shut off to help conserve battery power. When you’re ready to play again, simply press the “on” button for Trip to appear.

If you have multiple Cube World cubes, you can connect up to 16 in any vertical and/or horizontal configuration to see them all interact together (even if there are more than one of the same character). Since each cube can hold up to four stick figures, this provides hours of unpredictable and thoroughly entertaining fun. The Global Get A Way cube requires three AAA batteries which are not included.

Just don’t get caught holding this potato when the buzzer sounds (after about a minute of increasingly insistent beating), as the other team will score a point, possession being nine- tenths of the “Awww!” With its infectious mix of fast, nerve-wracking, high- pressure passing the buck, Electronic Catch Phrase spreads a serious case of fun.
